What does technical analysis do?
Technical analysis studies historical prices and, where available, volumes to visualize trends and zones of market interest.
Indicators and chart patterns organize observations but cannot guarantee forecasts. Signals can fail as market conditions change.
Trends and levels
An uptrend is often described by higher highs and higher lows, while downtrends show lower highs and lower lows. Sideways markets move inside ranges without a clear direction.
Support and resistance are approximate zones, not permanent barriers. Prices can cross or repeatedly test them.
Combine context with risk management
Do not view charts in isolation from news, liquidity and unexpected events. Volatility, spreads and slippage can undermine historical patterns.
