Base and quote currencies
A pair has a base currency on the left and a quote currency on the right. In EUR/USD, EUR is the base and USD is the quote. An illustrative quote of 1.10 means 1.10 US dollars per euro.
This example is educational, not a live or broker-quoted rate.
What does a rising pair mean?
When EUR/USD rises, the euro gains relative value against the dollar in that pair. It does not necessarily mean the dollar is weakening against every currency.
Separate price direction from actual trading costs: spreads, commissions and other charges affect outcomes.
Common currency pairs
Examples include EUR/USD, GBP/USD and USD/JPY. Hours, liquidity and spreads vary by pair and provider. Mentioning a pair does not confirm it is available in every Volume account.
